"I am very tired and want to sleep but it's too noisy right now," he tells Malaysiakini.

Koh is a grandfather with three children and three grandchildren. He is alone at Bersih 4.

The other items he has brought along include six litres of water, a small gas cooker, tea, energy bar and ‘ubi kayu’ (tapioca).

"Mahathir has a right to express his support (for Bersih 4) but it does not mean the rakyat has forgotten that part of the problem today is due to the system which he built where democratic space was closed.

Moments after Rafizi's call to catch Rosmah, a voice from the crowd yells, "Make way, Rosmah is coming."

Despite this, he still wants to stay on as he feels he has an obligation to fight for the younger generation.

“The problem with the country is that there is a gap between the government and the people. I don't think I will live to see the problem fixed,” he adds.

    Cops and hokey-pokey

9.00am: Jalan Raja - About 40 policemen arrive on motorbikes behind the barricade.

Away from the barricade, Bersih steering committee member Ivy Josiah gets onstage to lead the morning exercise programme for the rally-goers.

She manages to cajole Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah to get on stage with her.

'Putrajaya, be clean, we're watching you,' Josiah chants while leading the hokey-pokey dance.

The crowd appears to be eager to join in the morning exercises and do so.

The activity ends with Josiah reminding them to keep the streets clean, obey the rules and most importantly, to not break through the barricade.

Stage being set for morning activities

8.45am: Jalan Raja - More protesters are waking up and joining the crowd of about 5,000 in the area.

Even more protesters are coming to the gathering point with a majority of them coming in from Jalan Tun Perak.

As four RMAF helicopters fly past overhead, the crowd enthusiastically wave and shout 'Bersih' at them.

Meanwhile, a makeshift stage is being set up in front of the barriers to Dataran Merdeka and many gather around it in anticipation of the start of morning activities.

A few Bersih volunteers are also seen helping Alam Flora staff to gather and load yesterday's rubbish collection.
